Policy Statement for Consultation Hours

Purpose and Scope
Before any consultation begins, both the clinician offering the hours and the provider receiving them must agree on the specific goals of the engagement. This agreement should be captured in writing and signed by both parties. The EMDR IA Consultation Packet (available free of charge on EMDRIA.org) supplies a sample contract and supporting materials that can be used as a starting point.

Responsibility for Tracking Hours
The provider who is receiving consultation hours is solely responsible for recording, monitoring, and reporting those hours to meet EMDR certification requirements. The consulting clinician does not keep a formal log of the trainee’s progress; instead, the trainee must maintain accurate records and submit them to the appropriate EMDR training authority when requested.

Open‑Source Training Materials
All documentation required for ongoing EMDR training—including manuals, worksheets, and assessment tools—is openly published on the official EMDR IA website (EMDRIA.org). These resources may be accessed, downloaded, and shared without restriction, provided that proper attribution to EMDR IA is retained.

Role of an EMDR IA‑Approved Consultant‑in‑Training (CIT)
A CIT who holds EMDR IA approval may allocate a portion of the required consultation hours to clinicians who are working toward EMDR certification. To deliver the ten hours of consultation mandated for completion of the basic EMDR training, the CIT must first coordinate directly with the trainee’s EMDR training provider. Each training provider designates which EMDR IA‑approved consultants and/or CITs are authorized to supply consultation hours for participants in that program.

By signing this agreement, the receiving provider acknowledges that the consultant is a Consultant‑in‑Training who has been approved by EMDR IA and that the consultation hours are being offered under the conditions outlined above.

Confidentiality and Data Protection
Both parties agree to treat any client‑related information exchanged during the consultation as strictly confidential and to store such data in accordance with applicable privacy regulations (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR). No personally identifiable health information will be shared outside the scope of the consultation without explicit, written consent from the client.

Termination
Either party may terminate the consultation arrangement with written notice. Upon termination, the provider remains responsible for completing any outstanding hour requirements and for preserving any confidential records in line with legal obligations.

Privacy Policy - the basics

Having said that, a privacy policy is a statement that discloses some or all of the ways a website collects, uses, discloses, processes, and manages the data of its visitors and customers. It usually also includes a statement regarding the website’s commitment to protecting its visitors’ or customers’ privacy, and an explanation about the different mechanisms the website is implementing in order to protect privacy.

Different jurisdictions have different legal obligations of what must be included in a Privacy Policy. You are responsible to make sure you are following the relevant legislation to your activities and location.

What to include in the Privacy Policy

Generally speaking, a Privacy Policy often addresses these types of issues: the types of information the website is collecting and the manner in which it collects the data; an explanation about why is the website collecting these types of information; what are the website’s practices on sharing the information with third parties; ways in which your visitors and customers can exercise their rights according to the relevant privacy legislation; the specific practices regarding minors’ data collection; and much, much more.
